Book Illustrations
Although I’m focusing most of my time on my T-shirts, I do have other projects running along side. Recently I have just finished some illustrations for a book here in Mexico. The book is based on Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll. So here is my interpretation of that. I designed the cover and three illustrations for inside.
Front Cover. The graphic designer for the book will be adding the text for the title of the book, so I left a big space at the top of the design for him to do it.
Sex
Drugs
Rock ‘n’ Roll
At the moment I am also filling up a sketch book for the Art House Co-op: The Sketch Book Project. If you can’t be bothered going to the link, basically it’s a project for artists from all over the world. You pay $25 and they send you a sketch book (that is really small) that you fill up and send back. Then they take it on tour like a band. They are mainly touring the U.S.A. but I think they are going to U.K., Canada and Australia. Then after the tour the sketchbooks are kept in The Brooklyn Art Library, for anyone to view. Which is nice! So once I have completed it I will be posting some if not all of the pages for you to see.
Times are changing yet again!
So if you are a regular visitor to my site or if you have just come on now to read this post but you know my previous work, you might have noticed another change!! Yes that’s right I change my ideas and designs more than herpes changes form! Scientific Fact!
Ok so there are a few changes that have taken place on here and there will be more in the future once I get things sorted and together. You can see I have a new logo (the C.M.G. monster type guy) and my style of clothing has turned a bit of a corner (this you will not be able to see yet as I don’t have many designs together yet, but soon my pretties, soon). The story behind the change is basically this:
I was designing a T-shirt one day about a month ago, with my previous style, and realised I wasn’t enjoying it. It was becoming hard work to try and think of designs and to make them interesting but also I think that the designs were becoming too serious, which I didn’t want. I want to keep my brand fun and humorous. I sat back and looked at my work then I asked a close friend and my girlfriend what they thought of my designs. They both replied the same….. they liked them but they didn’t think it represented me very much. At first I was a bit pissed off and I had to take a walk to clear my head. During the walk I found a botanero (kind of bar) and had a few beers, which helped me think a bit more! I realised they were right. The designs I had been doing were generic crappy designs (with a slight twist) that you can find in most main street shops. Again this is not what I want from my brand! I started to think why the hell do I have a Lolly Pop as my logo!? I don’t even like Lolly Pops that much, so why would I invest my time in something I don’t like. From that realisation I had more and more until finally I said to myself “what am I doing, this isn’t me!”. After a few more beers I headed home to start coming up with a new logo that was more fun and represented me, and also to come up with a plan of what I wanted to achieve and make of this brand.
I have always said to my girlfriend that I wanted a “Skate/Street wear” line, but always saw it as a future project. But with the recent epiphany I decided that the time was now, to try to start it up. Hopefully this will mean that I can put more of myself into the designs and also make them more humorous. Skating is something I have grown up with and something I still love (although I can no longer skate). I love the designs, culture, boards etc. I would love to get more involved with it. Soooooo here is my new brand, C.M.G. aka CustardMustardGustard. Based on Skate/Street wear. Like I said a lot more will be changing on here and everywhere in my life, so you will probably notice these things.
I hope the shitty story of my crap life didn’t put you to sleep.
Since the idea of changing my brand I have been doing a lot of sight seeing and other things which has also helped towards my thinking. It’s always good to get out and see things, they inspire you more than you think. Anyway here are a few pics and some of my old designs I was going to release (but no longer). Also thank you for being patient if you are waiting for me to release my designs! But I promise the new designs will be more fun and a better representation of my personality. Stay tuned.
DAY OF THE DEAD ALTAR: My girlfriend and I made for my two Grandads, my best friend Joe, and the great Gran of my grilfriend. Rest in peace all of you!
TONINA: Mayan ruins about 3 hours away from here. Amazing place!
AGUA AZUL: Although not so blue when we were there because of the time of year! But still nice to see.
PALENQUE: Absolutely amazing place to see! I have so many photos but thought I would just put up some of the main ones!
SHIRT EXAMPLES: Here are some of the designs I was doing and had lined up to print. Not all of them are complete and the colour of the shirts weren’t finalised but you get the idea. Not that they were bad designs but I just wasn’t feeling it! So I’m glad I decided to change my ideas and start fresh! As I mentioned before there is going to be more humour involved now and the designs will be a bit more Skate/Street wear.
Well anyway sorry for the extremely long post and for boring the shit out of you. I have a few more other projects that I’m doing at the moment so I might be blogging about them soon. Also I’m kind of waiting until next year now to get my designs printed up. I would obviously like to do it as soon as possible but I have a lot going on and will hopefully be moving soon.
I’m not sure if the post makes sense and if there are any spelling mistakes it’s your fault for reading it wrong! I really can’t be bothered to check through it all again. As I always say keep checking back, there will be more updates and I am definitely going to stick with this idea now. NO MORE CHANGING!!! I feel a lot better about this! Okily Dokily Ciao for now!
Planning, Oh Yeah, Touch It!
So I have nearly completed the designs now for my first series. Just got some little tweaks to make and one more design to finalise. So I have started to plan a little more about layout and colours of T-shirts. I have put together some examples to see what looks good but nothing has been decided yet. I’m going to get the opinion of a friend (if you are reading this you know who you are) to help with some final decisions…. AND then hopefully I will be ready to take to the printers! Fingers crossed!
So here are 4 examples (from 6/7 designs I’m going to release) of how they designs MIGHT look on the T-shirt (like I said nothing is finalised yet).
(Images are supposed to be pixelated)
Taste the deliciousness!
Also, I have just realised that I need to change my banner on my blog page and a few other things as I am dropping the Gustard Kreams name! But I might leave them for now until I sort out the most important things like the T-shirts!
